British Values

Promoting Fundamental British Values.

In accordance with The Department for Education we aim to actively promote British values in schools to ensure young people leave school prepared for life in modern Britain. This is done in a variety of ways including through our PSHE curriculum, Collective Worship, RE and through visitors such as the community police officer. Some of our older children take part in the South Lakes Pupil Parliament, working on projects with other schools and feeding back to the children within our own school.

Values underlying public life in the United Kingdom have been summarised as ‘including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect, and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs’. We believe that our pupils should appreciate that such values are important in the UK and are at the basis of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. These values are also shared and respected in a very wide range of countries throughout the world.
