Reading

In school, your child will enjoy listening to a variety of class stories daily.

The children will all have focused phonics lessons, and will read as part of these sessions using the phonics books matched to their individual phonics knowledge.

Each child will bring home reading books to read with parents/carers. These books will be matched to their phonics knowledge, so all the children will be able to read them independently to parents/carers.

Please read daily or as often as possible as this really helps your child to increase their confidence and fluency. It is important to read their books several times as this also enables them to build fluency and gain an understanding of the text.

Each week the Reception children will bring home some High Frequency (Tricky) words to learn  by sight to build up their sight vocabulary and fluency when reading. The Year 1 children have a list of these words in the front of their individual reading records and they need to continue to learn these words daily.

Enjoy sharing and reading books at home!
