Learning Together, Growing Together, Supporting Each Other

Class 2's science topic this term is light. This week's objective is to explore reflective surfaces. If you can't print out the worksheets, just record your work on a blank piece of paper.

1. Use the PowerPoint and pause to use the activities when prompted. At the start there is a link to watch a short film about the importance of reflective materials in safety at night.

2. Choose some materials to test: CD or DVD, foil, bubble wrap, any type of fabric, paper, cardboard or plastic. Use your reflection tester: a torch pushed through a hole in a piece of white card. Does your material reflect the light from the torch onto the white card? Record your results on the Testing reflective materials sheet or a piece of paper and put the materials in order from the one that reflects light the most to the least.

3. Using your results, choose a reflective material to use on a school book bag. Which material would work best and what shape should it be and which position would you place it on the book bag? Either draw on a piece of paper or record on the Choosing material sheet.

4.  Extra activity: Design a poster to tell people how to dress to be seen in the dark. Explain how to choose clothes that reflect light well.

You will also find a light 'knowledge organiser' in the files below. This will give you and your parents a good idea of the knowledge we will be covering in science this term.
